Try these food hacks to reduce stress

Did you know there are certain foods that can actually help you feel less stressed?

It’s true!

They have pretty incredible health benefits, plus they work with your body to help soothe anxiety, cut inflammation, and generally help you feel more “chill.”

Are you ready? Here’s the list:

1. Foods High in Vitamin C: green chilli peppers, yellow bell peppers and cherries are top choices because they all contain a big infusion of this powerful vitamin.

A study in the journal Psychopharmacology found that people who took a high dose of vitamin C before they gave a stressful presentation had lower blood pressure AND they bounced back more quickly from the cortisol “rush” they experienced from the stress.

2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: There are three “major” omega-3s … DHA, EPA, and ALA. 

A study showed that DHA omega-3s (the kind found in wild salmon and other fatty fish) helped cut anxiety in medical students by 20%.

Try adding wild salmon to your diet a couple of times per week. If you don’t eat fish, it might be worth taking an omega-3 supplement containing DHA fatty acids.

3. Tea: A study by scientists at University College London had participants either drink black tea or a placebo for 6 weeks. At the end of the study period, the tea drinkers had lower cortisol levels and reported less stress during/after stressful tasks than the placebo group.

If you want to give this a go, but you’re sensitive to caffeine, you can try using a soothing tea like chamomile, peppermint, or other herbal blend.

There’s an important side benefit to trying any (or all!) of the above tips – it’s all about taking action, which is one of the best stress reducers of all time!

Simply DOING something to help combat stress can instantly make you feel more in control and proactive.

Having a resilient, healthy body is also a huge part of dealing with stress.

Making sure you get enough exercise, eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep are all major players in the stress-reduction game!
